How discreet are clear aligners, really?
The whole point is that nobody notices. Here's what to expect day to day — from meetings to dinner to that first photograph.
Clear aligners are made to sit closely against your teeth, and they're genuinely difficult to spot in everyday conversation. Most people wearing them find that colleagues and friends simply don't mention it — because they haven't noticed.
You take them out to eat and to drink anything other than water, then brush and pop them back in. In practice this settles into an easy rhythm within a few days. The aligners are worn for around 22 hours a day, which sounds like a lot until you realise the two hours off are your meals.
For the first day or two of each new set, you may notice a gentle tightness as your teeth adjust. It fades quickly. Speech takes a day to adapt to and then becomes unremarkable. By the end of the first week, most people forget they're wearing them at all.
